Quick answer
In 2026–27, Classes 1 to 9 use NCERT’s new NCF-based textbooks, with Class 9 switching this session to books such as Ganita Manjari, Exploration and Kaveri. Classes 10 and 11 keep their existing NCERT books until new ones arrive in 2027–28, and Class 12 also continues with its existing books.
New NCERT textbooks 2026–27: which classes have them?
Looking for the new NCERT textbooks 2026–27? Classes 1 to 9 now use them. NCERT has been writing new books in line with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, and in an advisory dated 17 March 2026 it said the new books for Grades 1 to 8 are available in print and digital formats, while the new Grade 9 books are for use from the 2026–27 session.
Classes 10 and 11 wait one more year. The same advisory says their new textbooks will be introduced from 2027–28, so the existing books continue this session. The advisory does not mention Class 12, and CBSE’s 2026–27 Class XII curriculum still prescribes the current NCERT books.

Where can you download NCERT books for free?
Use NCERT’s own channels. NCERT names its website, ePathshala and DIKSHA as the places for its free digital textbooks, and sells printed copies through its online portal, its sales counters and a vendor network.
Be careful with PDFs shared on social media. On 24 June 2026 NCERT warned that a fake, unofficial copy of the Class 9 Social Science Part 1 was circulating on social media channels, websites and messaging groups. You can also browse every class from 1 to 12 on our NCERT textbooks page.
FAQ
Questions parents ask
Are the Class 10 NCERT books changing in 2026–27?
No. NCERT’s advisory of 17 March 2026 says the existing textbooks for Grades 10 and 11 continue to be used during 2026–27, with new books from 2027–28. CBSE’s 2026–27 Class X curriculum still prescribes First Flight, Footprints Without Feet and the existing NCERT Mathematics and Science textbooks.
Is there a new NCERT book for Class 12 in 2026–27?
No new Class 12 book has been announced. NCERT’s March 2026 advisory sets out plans for Grades 1 to 11 and does not mention Class 12. CBSE’s 2026–27 Class XII curriculum prescribes the existing NCERT books, for example Physics Part I and II, Chemistry Part I and II, and Flamingo and Vistas for English Core.
Which classes use the new NCF-based NCERT books?
Classes 1 to 9 in 2026–27. Going by the first edition dates printed in the English textbooks, the new books arrived in stages: Classes 1 and 2 in 2023, Classes 3 and 6 in 2024, Classes 4, 5, 7 and 8 in 2025, and Class 9 in 2026. NCERT plans new Class 10 and 11 books from 2027–28.
Why does the Class 9 maths book say Part I?
Because Ganita Manjari comes in two parts. Part I has chapters 1 to 8; Part II, which NCERT published at the end of September 2026, has chapters 9 to 14, including Quadrilaterals, Two Variables, One Line (linear equations) and Surface Area and Volume. NCERT says topics such as Lines and Angles are taught inside these chapters, not removed.
Where can I download the new NCERT textbooks for free?
Use NCERT’s own channels: the textbook page on ncert.nic.in, ePathshala and DIKSHA, which NCERT names as the sources of its free digital versions. NCERT has warned that a fake copy of the new Class 9 Social Science book circulated on social media, so avoid PDFs from unofficial groups and channels.
Do CBSE schools in Bahrain use the same NCERT books?
CBSE issues its curriculum to all affiliated schools and asks them to follow it strictly. For 2026–27 it prescribes NCERT textbooks for core subjects such as English, Mathematics and the sciences in Classes 9 to 12. So if your child’s school in Bahrain or the GCC is CBSE-affiliated, these titles apply. Language options can differ by school.
