What is the list of CBSE schools in Bahrain?

CBSE’s SARAS directory listed eight CBSE schools in Bahrain on 24 September 2026, all filed under the state ‘Foreign Schools’ and the district ‘Bahrain’. The table gives each school’s name, affiliation number, area and affiliation period as the directory showed them, in the directory’s order.

CBSE-affiliated schools in Bahrain on SARAS (checked 24 September 2026)

All eight showed ‘Senior Secondary Level’ as their status and ‘Independent’ as their school type. For scale, SARAS showed 33,153 CBSE-affiliated schools in total that day, in India and abroad.

Areas come from the postal addresses the schools gave CBSE, and several are PO boxes, so the listed area may not be where the campus is. Confirm the campus address with the school.

CBSE’s bye-laws grant affiliation for an initial period of five years, and the disclosure format that schools must publish asks for copies of any ‘recent extension of affiliation’, so check the current period on SARAS rather than relying on this snapshot.

How can I check if a school in Bahrain is CBSE-affiliated?

Search for it on CBSE’s SARAS portal, which needs no login:

  1. Open saras.cbse.gov.in, select ‘List of Affiliated Schools, Contact Us’, then ‘List of Affiliated Schools’ (or go straight to the SARAS list page).
  2. Select ‘State wise’, choose ‘FOREIGN SCHOOLS’ as the state and ‘BAHRAIN’ as the district, then press Search.
  3. To find one school, use ‘Affi. No. wise’ with its affiliation number, or ‘Keyword wise’ with any word from its name or address.
  4. Click ‘View’ beside the school to open its details page.
  5. Check the name, ‘Status of The School’ and the ‘Affiliation Period’ dates against what the school tells you.

The same search form also has a ‘Disaffiliated/Closed schools’ option for schools that have been disaffiliated or closed.

Check the school’s own website too

CBSE’s Affiliation Bye-Laws, as amended in March 2021, require every affiliated school to upload a ‘Mandatory Public Disclosure’ at a prominent place on its website. The format includes the affiliation number, copies of the affiliation letter and any recent extension, the fee structure, the annual academic calendar and the last three years’ board results. The affiliation number there should match SARAS.

What does the SARAS details page show?

The details page shows administrative facts about the school, not fees, results or subjects. For each Bahrain school it listed:

  • name of institution, affiliation number, state and district;
  • postal address and website;
  • year of foundation and date of first opening;
  • principal’s name, qualifications and experience;
  • status of the school, school type and affiliation period;
  • name of the trust, society or managing committee.

The results list also shows a school code beside each affiliation number, such as 90057 for The Indian School. When checking a school, go by the affiliation number, which is what schools use to log in when entering students for board exams.

For fees, board results and the academic calendar, use the school’s Mandatory Public Disclosure; for subjects and admissions, ask the school directly.

What does ‘Senior Secondary Level’ mean on SARAS?

It is the highest of the three levels in SARAS’s ‘School level wise’ search, which offers Middle Class, Secondary Level and Senior Secondary Level, and CBSE uses ‘senior secondary’ for the Class 11 and 12 stage. All eight Bahrain schools showed Senior Secondary Level on 24 September 2026.

That does not tell you which Class 11 subjects a school teaches. SARAS does not list subjects, and subjects need their own approval: CBSE’s subject-change procedure checks whether a school ‘has affiliation in respect of that subject’. Ask each school for its Class 11 combinations.

How many CBSE schools does SARAS list in other GCC countries?

Running the same State wise search on 24 September 2026 listed 22 schools in Kuwait, 18 in Oman, 20 in Qatar, 41 in Saudi Arabia and 109 in the United Arab Emirates, alongside Bahrain’s eight. Families moving within the Gulf can use the same search to check a school before a transfer.

Why does CBSE affiliation matter for board exams?

Because Class 10 and Class 12 board exam entries go through affiliated schools. Schools submit their list of candidates using their affiliation number as the user ID, and CBSE’s Affiliation Bye-Laws say no affiliated school shall present candidates ‘who are enrolled in an unaffiliated School/Branch’.

CBSE’s list of candidates circular for 2026–27 also asks principals to ensure that ‘Students are not from any unauthorized/unaffiliated schools’. If your child studies at a separate campus or branch, ask the school which affiliation number that campus comes under.

Do CBSE schools in Bahrain follow the same system as schools in India?

Yes, for curriculum and exams. CBSE issues one curriculum and one set of sample papers each session to all affiliated schools; its notification of 21 September 2026 releasing the 2026–27 sample papers, for example, is addressed to all heads of schools affiliated with CBSE. The academic session runs from April to March under CBSE’s Affiliation Bye-laws, and Class 10 students now have two board examinations; CBSE’s 2026–27 list of candidates circular says the first, in February–March, is mandatory for all Class 10 candidates.

Some notices apply only to West Asia, which CBSE’s 2026 notices list as Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. In 2026, CBSE issued an assessment scheme for declaring Class XII results in these countries (27 March 2026), and on 15 September 2026 it announced special Class XII examinations for eligible students there, asking schools to pass the notice to the students concerned.

CBSE publishes notices on cbse.gov.in and on its academic website, cbseacademic.nic.in, which carries the curriculum and sample papers, so you can read them directly as well as through the school.

What should I ask a school after checking SARAS?

Ask the questions SARAS cannot answer:

  • Which campus your child would attend, and which affiliation number that campus comes under.
  • Which Class 11 subject combinations and second languages are offered, including Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
  • Where to find the Mandatory Public Disclosure, with its fee structure, academic calendar and recent board results.
  • How the school passes on CBSE notices, including any that apply only to West Asia.
  • What guidance the school gives in Class 10 when students choose their Class 11 subjects.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

How many CBSE schools are there in Bahrain?

CBSE’s SARAS directory listed eight CBSE-affiliated schools in Bahrain on 24 September 2026, all at Senior Secondary Level: The Indian School, The Asian School, The New Indian School, Al-Noor International School, Ibn Al Hytham Islamic School, New Millennium School, Bahrain Indian School and New Horizon School W.L.L. The list can change, so check SARAS for the latest position.

Where in Bahrain are the CBSE schools listed?

Going by the addresses on SARAS on 24 September 2026, two list Isa Town, four list Manama (including Umm Al Hassam and Bughazal), one lists Budaya Post Office and one lists Ahli Club Campus, Block No 331. Several addresses are PO boxes, so confirm the actual campus location with each school before visiting.

How do I find a school’s CBSE affiliation number?

Search the school’s name on CBSE’s SARAS portal with the ‘Keyword wise’ option, or list every Bahrain school with ‘State wise’ by choosing ‘FOREIGN SCHOOLS’ and then ‘BAHRAIN’. The affiliation number appears beside each school. The Mandatory Public Disclosure on a CBSE school’s own website should show the same number.

What is the difference between an affiliation number and a school code?

SARAS shows both for each school; The Indian School, for example, has affiliation number 5230001 and school code 90057. The affiliation number is the one CBSE’s 2026–27 list of candidates circular says schools use as their user ID when submitting board exam entries, and it is the number to use when checking a school.

Does SARAS show school fees or board results?

No. SARAS shows administrative details such as the address, school type, status and affiliation period. For fees and results, look at the school’s Mandatory Public Disclosure, which CBSE’s Affiliation Bye-Laws require on every affiliated school’s website and whose format includes the fee structure and the last three years’ board results.

Is a school CBSE-affiliated if it is not on SARAS?

SARAS is CBSE’s own directory of affiliated schools, so a school missing from it needs checking. Ask the school which CBSE affiliation number its Class 10 and Class 12 students are entered under, then search that number on SARAS using ‘Affi. No. wise’. CBSE’s bye-laws bar affiliated schools from presenting board candidates who are enrolled in an unaffiliated school or branch.

Do CBSE schools in Bahrain use the same curriculum as schools in India?

Yes. CBSE issues one curriculum and one set of sample papers for each session to all affiliated schools, in India and abroad. Board exams are CBSE’s too, although CBSE sometimes issues notices only for West Asian countries, as it did in 2026 for Class XII results and special examinations in the region.
